【摘要】:Thistestprovidesarapidmeansofevaluatingtendenciesforpackagesealfailurewhenthepackageisexposedtoapressuredifferential.Pressuredifferentialsmayoccurduringsuchprocessesassterilizationandtransportation.Thistestmethodprovidesanindicatoroftheburststrengthofapackage,wheretheburstwillnormallyoccurinoneormoreareasoftheseal.Anindicatoroftheminimumburststrengthmaybeofimportancetothepackagemanufacturerandenduserinensuringadequatepackageintegrity.Thistestmethodcannotprovideameasureofpackagesealuniformity.Thistestmethodalsocannotprovideanevaluationofoverallpackageintegrityortheburststrengthofareasofthepackagethatcontactthesurfaceoftherestrainingplatesused.Thistestmethodshouldbecombinedwithothermethodsofevaluatingoverallpackageintegrity,uniformityofthepackageseal,oropeningfunctionality,ifsorequired.Thistestfrequentlyisusedtoquicklyevaluatepackagesealstrengthduringthemanufacturingprocessandatvariousstagesofthepackagersquo;lifecycle.Ifcorrelationsbetweenpiecesoftestequipmentaretobemadeitisimportantthatallparametersofthetestbeequivalent.Typicalparameterscaninclude,butarenotlimitedtothepackagesize,material,typeandconfigurationofseal,rateofairflowintothepackage,pressuredetectionsensingmechanismandsensitivity(machineresponsetopressuredrop),positionoftestarticle,rigidityofrestrainingplates,anddistancebetweenrestrainingplates.SeeAppendixX2forfurtherinformation.ThistestmaynotnecessarilyprovidecorrelationwithpackagesealstrengthastypicallymeasuredusingTestMethodsF1140orF88(orequivalents).1.1Thesetestmethodscovertheprocedurefordeterminingtheminimumburststrengthofasealplacedaroundtheperimeterofaflexiblepackageasitisinternallypressurizedandenclosedwithinrestrainingplates.1.2ThetestmethodsdescribedhereinarefunctionallysimilartoTestMethodsF1140withtheexceptionoftheuseofrestrainingplates.TestMethodsF1140describesmethodsofbursttestingthatdonotincludetheuseofrestrainingplatesandaresuitabletodetermineapackagesgeneralabilitytowithstandpressurizationstresses.UnderTestMethodsF1140thestressesarenotdistributeduniformlytoallareasofthepackageseal.Underunrestrainedconditionsthestressonthepackageishighestatthemiddleofthepouchwhereitinflatestothepackagesmaximumdiameter;therefore,TestMethodsF1140maynotreliablydetecttheweakestareaoftheseal.1.3Thebursttestinternallyandincreasinglypressurizesapackageuntilanareaofthepackagesealaroundtheperimeter"bursts"openinresponsetopressurization.Byplacingthepackagewithinrestrainingplatesduringpressurization,thedimensionalstabilityofthepackageismaintainedinamannerthatresultsinstressesappliedmoreuniformlyalongtheperimeterofthepackage,wheresealsarenormallyplaced.Thisallowsthetesttohaveahigherprobabilityofdetectingtheweakestareaofthesealandprovideameasurementofthepressurerequiredto"burst"openthepackage.1.4Thistestonlyappliestoflexiblepackageswithsealsplacedaroundtheperimeterofaflexiblepackage(oftenreferredtoasapouch).Inparticularitisintendedasapplicabletopackageswithsealsthathaveapeelablesealfeature(peeledopenbyendusertoremovecontentsofpackage).1.4.1Porousbarriermaterials''failuretoreachadequatepressuretoburstthepackagesealsmaybeduetoinsufficientvolumeflow.SeeAppendixX4forinformation.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsus......
